    Description

    Here is a fabulous and finely carved mother of pearl Nativity scene, that was probably done in the Holy Land, Palestine, sometime in the 19th century. An internet search turned up other similar ones in major museums worldwide, and they were being dated from the 18th century into the 19th. To be on the safe side, I am calling this one 19th century, but it is equal in quality to others that I found. It is in excellent overall condition, with the exception of one small piece of the outer scroll work missing, as can be seen in the photos. It is about 5 1/2" long, and about 4 5/8" wide.
